Cyber-bullying or cyberharassment is a form of harassment using electronics. Cyber-Bullying has become increasingly common especially among teenagers.
- What does cyber-bullying do?
Today digital sphere has expanded and advanced more. Cyber-Bullying is when someone harasses or bullies others on the internet. Especially in social media. Harmful behavior can include posting rumors, threats, personal information etc. Victims of cyber-bullying may experience different emotion types, lower self-esteem, suicidial ideation, angry etc.
- Cyber-bullying on social media
Cyber-bullying can take place on various of social media. Such as Facebook, twitter, myspace etc. According to social media results by 2008, 93% of young people between the ages of 12-17 were mostly online. In simple terms young people spend more time in social media than other real life activities except sleeping.
There are many risks in social media sites. Cyber-Bullying is one of them. According to Facebook last year report One million children were harassed or threatened.
Cyber-Bullying has increased more because of this pandemic situation and nowadays children have access to all the technology. Most common apps to use cyber-bullying are twitter, snapchat and Instagram. Most children are addicted to Cyber-Bullying nowadays and it has become hard to stop because parents and teachers unaware of when and where it is happening.
Two studies from 2014 found 80% of women sent body-shaming tweets.
Cyber-Bullying does not stop at social media. It also goes to online gaming, search engines, schools etc. It's our responsibility not to take part in this cyber-bullying and it's our responsibility to protect from them.
